ReplyDeleteThe article I read is ‘Lying is everyday occurrence’. Usually when famous people lie, the publics get angry, feel betrayed and may even offend them. However, the fact is that everyone lies. There are different reasons for lying. Some reasons are not bad, such as remembering falsely. Due to several researches, people are better at telling than detecting lies. Besides, children can be easily affected by the reliability of the environment. So from the author’s words, people should be more tolerant about lying and sometimes people feel hard to believe just based on a false detection.
ReplyDeletehttp://tucson.com/news/opinion/column/guest/lying-is-everyday-occurrence-for-famous-rest-of-us/article_23a25e06-121a-5798-98b8-46c7855bdad2.html
Your summary contains all ideas that the article have, good job! Well, my suggestion is that you may need to organize them and put them in a more logic way, I mean you can find relationships between them.
DeleteYour summary is clear. It tells readers all points in the article which you choose. When I read your summary just one time, I have known contents of the article generally. However, if you structured those points, you will get a better one.
DeleteGood summary. Makes sense to me. Even without having read the article, reading your summary persuades me to read the whole article. Interesting!
Deletethere is no reason for me to go through the article, because your summary is clear and simple. great work!
DeleteI believe this is a perfect brief of the article. I think nearly 90% of the article is already in your summary. The only reason to let me read this article is if I need is go through some details, maybe get some data. If I want the general idea, the only thing i need is your summary.
DeleteYou did a great summary of the article which gives the audience a great idea about what does the article talks about without reading it.
DeleteVery interesting! And there are a lot of reasons people lie. Hmm.... As an instructor, I feel I am often the recipient of lies. I guess it is part of the territory.I wish students always felt that they could tell me the truth, but I know this isn't the case.
Deletehttp://tucson.com/news/opinion/column/guest/lying-is-everyday-occurrence-for-famous-rest-of-us/article_23a25e06-121a-5798-98b8-46c7855bdad2.html
ReplyDeleteThe article, Lying is everyday occurrence — for famous, rest of us, basically tells reasons about why everyone lies and what determines more or less lies. Specifically, there has two main reasons that cause people to lie: one is that people need lies to improve their social interactions since people cannot say others looks heavy directly even though they are; the other reason is that people lack in true memories, in other words, people can actually go back in and edit their memories, kind of deceive, but they succeed in deceiving themselves so that they believe the lies are true. Finally, the author talks about how environment influence children's trust: children who live in reliable environment seems much easier to believe others while those live in contrary situation seems to use more lies to protect themselves.
You summarize the two main ideas in the first sentence, which is simple but clear. Then you explain how thes two ideas displayed in the article. Good organization!
DeleteYour summary contains all the important points of the article. However, you could try to writer shorter and more precise sentences in order to summarize the points more clearly.
DeleteYour summary contains not only the general idea of the article. Compare to Qingzuo's, your summary also give some details. According to your summary, i know there are two main reasons why people lie, and what are they. Good job. Cheers.
DeleteThis article is really interesting. Actually, people sometimes lie for no reason. In order to make their lies "real", they need to make more lies.
DeleteI like your summary, it contains a lot of good points and it gave me good understanding about the article. However, I would try to make it shorter in order to make it more effective to the reader.

ReplyDeletehttp://tucson.com/sports/basketball/college/wildcats/arizona-basketball-cats-focus-on-sweep-not-top-seed/article_552c0ee8-9589-5379-b1a9-06ffce9e51d2.html
ReplyDeleteThe article "Arizona basketball: Cats focus on sweep, not top seed" is about Coach Miller explaining what is most important for the team. He mentions that it is more important to focus on the game than thinking too much about rankings. Thinking too much about rankings will lead to playing badly. He also says, the advantage of not being ranked no.1 in the country takes off a lot of pressure.
Your summary is good. You tell us the main points from Coach Miller about the most important thing for a team. However, you may need to mention the examples provided in the article to make the points more reliable.
DeleteAlthough your summary contains an important aspect, I think that there are still some other points which should be mentioned. However, it is hard to summarize all the important facts in only 50 words.
Deletegreat summary! i would agree with the coach on this matter, because focusing on rankings would potentially lose the teams focus on the game. good job!
DeleteThe summary is good, it contains many point that Coach Miller had mentioned about, but I think you should prove more, such as an example to support how they think too much on ranking.
DeleteYour summary is good and clear. Even though it lacks a few points it still tells us the content which is the most important part. Because of your summery I knew what the article was about and it made me curious.
DeleteThe article I choose is " Banner Health now aims to expand in Tucson". It is mainly about the changes of Banner Health in Tucson. Banner Health wants to be a community hospital for Tucsonans and grows its market share in Tucson. Moreover, Banner Health wants to provide more convenient medical services for citizens in Arizona, especially in Tucson.
ReplyDeletehttp://tucson.com/news/local/banner-health-now-aims-to-expand-in-tucson/article_421779b9-57e4-5d69-87c6-ff1b8942c77b.html
Your summary is good, which tell us Banner Health's aims; however, if you provide some information about Banner Health, your summary will be better. "Banner Health is a non-profit health system in the United States, based in Phoenix, Arizona. It operates 23 hospitals as well as specialized facilities."(from Wikipedia)
DeleteI have some friends who work at the hospital. The fact is that it's been losing money. It will be interesting to see if Banner can help the hospital make a profit--and stay in business. Right now everyone is concerned about what will happen.
Deletefor me, I think this is a good article. and the summary is easy to understand how Banner Health's aims. this is interested. hope one day I can try it
DeleteThe article I choose is "Michelle Obama promotes awareness of mental health care". First lady Michelle Obama waves while speaking at the Newseum in Washington.to launch the "Change Direction" campaign. Michelle Obama says mental health care is not just a policy and budget issue for America, but also a cultural issue. The first lady says there should be no stigma around mental health, and the real change requires a shift in "our attitudes." I think we should change our life like she sad. the health body can improve our life quilt.
ReplyDeletehttp://tucson.com/news/science/health-med-fit/michelle-obama-promotes-awareness-of-mental-health-care/article_bd2a58e5-56f4-50d8-ad7e-4a0ec15c3f7d.html
DeleteI agree with Michelle, mental healthy should get more attention by US people and they should real consider their size, lol. However, thinking about culture issue, are american people willing take lots of budgets of their income to stay focus on their health? this is a question.
DeleteThe problem is that some people don't want to accept "mental health" as illness, so they don't want to pay benefits to those people. Instead I think it's important to realize that there are indeed certain kinds of mental illness, and those people really need help. Until you've met some people with mental illness, though, I think it's hard to imagine.
Deletehttp://tucson.com/news/national/mormon-church-backs-utah-lgbt-anti-discrimination-bill/article_c1ab26c5-fcb5-51d1-96e3-61e046c4b532.html
ReplyDeleteThe article I read talks about the introduction of a bill that bars discrimination against gay and transgender individuals while protecting the rights of religious groups and individuals in Utah. The proposal prohibited discrimination of gender identity and sexual orientation. Those LGBT activists had tried many efforts to push a non-discrimination law in Utah. But the proposal still got some critics.
You gathered the main points, but I suggest to be more specific. I know, it is a summary, no need to analyze anything in particular, but what about the church? The mormon church was one of the main points in the article.
DeleteUtah is a unique place in the US because there are so many Mormons. They are pretty active in their faith. I'm not sure how receptive they will be to LGBT proposals. I think many people would have a hard time living in Utah because of the big religious influence.

ReplyDeleteMy article was about the fact, that the majority of engineers are male. By referring to a study, the author says that only 14% of the engineers are female. Raytheon Company is trying to inspire young students, both male and female, to become an engineer. They already have women in key positions, which should convince young women to study engineering.
ReplyDeletehttp://tucson.com/news/opinion/column/taylor-w-lawrence-raytheon-inspiring-tomorrow-s-engineers/article_2f8cbbe8-84f5-5f84-82d0-605fe96a7c07.html
According to your summary, I generally know this article's contents. However, I feel you could do it a little more specific . Then it will be better.
DeleteStrange, isn't it?! And often women don't think they're good in math, even if they are. Engineering was dominated by males when I went to college too, but that was a while ago. You'd think by now that things would be starting to change, but so far, not so much.
Delete"Arizona basketball: Cats focus on sweep, not top seed" is an article about a coach giving an explanation of the most important aspect that is needed for a team to be at its best. the team is thinking ahead of its self. the coach mentions that its better to focus on what you have than on what you want to have. he says that they should focus on the upcoming game rather than thinking about being No.1.

The article I read is about the same-sex marriage. Although same-sex marriage is legal in Arizona from Oct. 17, but the judge ruled that Tucsonan Martha A. Morris, 67, and her estranged wife, Vicki M. Sullivan, 64, now of Maine, could not be divorced. The fundamental reason for denying is there is no precedents he must follow. As we all know according to Federal law and American Constitution, the judge gives the rule based on former cases, which is familiar with the one he deals with.
ReplyDeletehttp://tucson.com/news/local/column/steller-tucson-judge-pretends-gay-marriage-isn-t-real/article_58f3c51d-f8e4-5450-bbef-ab8aa6708ffa.html
The summary is clear and good, but the explanation should add more becasue we don't know what is this article for besides this same-sex marriage.
DeleteSame-sex relationship or marriage would become a new trend of the future society, the trend should supported by the Federal government. They should publish a relative policy to solve the problem to make sure the health care, job security and public voice are all good for them. So that lots of homosexual people would find their happiness in the 'Land of freedom'. And presidents can claim their sexual selection to the public also.
Delete"Same-sex marrige" will be a controversial topic in nowadays and your brief summary make me know what this article.
DeleteThe article I read is "Tucson man killed in California sandrail crash". The man named Brent Bradley Reed was the driver, he died with a head wound in a crash at the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area in California. There were four passengers, include Brent's 8-year-old son, were survived and hospitalized with injuries. According to the pronounce by a spokesman for California Highway Patrol Winterhaven office, Brent Bradley Reed was traveling toward the part of All-American Canal. Brent was not able to make a U-turn and back to road, the vehicle was off-road and submerged. Four passengers were exit vehicle and swim to safety. The main causes for this crash are unsafe speed and unfamiliarity of the area.

I am focusing on the article called "Mediocre movie is merely 50 shades of abuse, degradation porn". The article is talk about the movie which named ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. The author thinks this movie is full of rich guys' malformation thoughts and exploiting women at society’s bottom rung. For me, I have watch this movie, and to be honestly, the movie gives me not only the impressive visual effects, but also the conflicts insides the film which can not combine the real meaning of the book with so called 'commercial film'. If the movie just made for the fame of the origin book or attract the audience for porn sense, I suggest those producers to product porns in the factories in California.
ReplyDeletehttp://tucson.com/news/opinion/mediocre-movie-is-merely-shades-of-abuse-degradation-porn/article_0f1f42bd-a64d-540a-99df-bf3577191d2a.html
I agree with you that the hollywood film industry took advantage of the enormous fame of the book to produce a movie which I think as the author of the article is very stupid.
DeleteI can't even believe how famous the book is. To me it doesn't seem interesting, so I haven't even picked it up. In fact, I think it's distasteful. However, it's interesting to see how much interest there is in the movie.
DeleteI do think it's a bad movie, but i don't think it's so awful that makes people feeling it is degrading women or something. The author's words, to me, are a little bit too aggressive, over-exaggerated, and objective. After all, the book is not so good itself... It is just a wired sex fantasy.
DeleteI think this is worth people to watch . in fact,I think I can learn a lot from this article. it really helpful for me, I will find some one like this author. this article is really I want to find.
DeleteThe article I read is "Shocking waste of 72 million tons of food." The article states that food waste not only makes a problem for the environment, but also weats money. As we all know food waste is one of the most important issue in the world because some people die due to their hunger in their country.
ReplyDeletehttp://tucson.com/ap/commentary/shocking-waste-of-million-tons-of-food/article_369ac553-ad55-5b8b-9839-c9abb8700702.html
The summary is clear and very easy to understand. This article tells people some significant information about food, and I give you advice that you should write more information.
DeleteThe obviously data shocks me also. The author uses lots of data to persuade people to believe his point.
DeleteClearly. I hate people who always waste foods.
DeleteThe article “Lying is everyday occurrence — for famous, rest of us” the author tells us people lie some reasons are good, or at least not evil. Another reason that sometimes people’s memory has some falsely, people cannot memory something carefully, then they said wrong. Thus people should be tolerant for lying, and people should be more cautious about believing. Also the article has research for the children; researchers find children are easier to believe others when they live in some reliable environment, and also trust could affect children's some decisions.

That is the truth people make lies try to escape from their real life.

ReplyDeleteThe article I read says that universities in Arizona will face an 110 million dollars funding cut this coming year. Arizona State University is expected to take the biggest cut. U of A will also be influenced by this decision. Instead of putting money into education, the state government will proceed with 1000 bed facility.
Mediocre movie is merely 50 shades of abuse, degradation porn
ReplyDeleteThis opinion article written by David Fitzsimmons criticizes the movie “Fifty Shades of Grey” saying that this film degrades women in many levels. He states than one of every four women is beaten by her male partner in her lifetime and 1000 women are killed every year by the same issue. He also states his preoccupation about the attention that this movie have had and compares it to a sort type of degradation porn.

I haven't watched that movie yet, but soon will. I just want to know do you agree or not? The movie might helps the situation in someway.
DeleteI have seen the movie, so the article makes sense to me. But I do feel the author is too aggressive. It is true that it's not a good movie, but degrading women seems a little bit over-exaggerated to me.

ReplyDeleteThe article is about Arizona Wildcat Football team. The author makes interviews with and summaries what they have said. It is a straight way for us to know our Arizona Wildcat football players' daily life. Football is one of the most famous sports in Arizona;Lots of people pay attention to it, especially U of A students.
Nice and brief. Liked it! I don't know football that much, but i agree with you.
DeleteI love football game too. You are good at writing
DeleteI agree with you but I do not watch sports much.

Deletemy plan is going back home or take a summer classes.
DeleteThe article "Arizona Universities could face $110 million funding cut" is about how republican legislative leaders and governor Doug Ducey decided to change their proposal to the worse and by that decrease university fundings. They will cut off state fundings for some of the state universities in Arizona, but also reduce it completely at some of the community colleges. They will also scale back on private prison beds and raise the current vehicle registration fee.

I read this article. I think it means we have to pay more for the tuition fee.
Deletethe article “Lying is everyday occurrence — for famous, rest of us” talk about all people lie, and they get better at lying as they age. Lying may is different between human and animals from communication. Some people lie for good reasons, and memory is also vulnerable. People are better at lying than at detecting les. Base on the test of marshmallow in University of Rochester, researchers found that children have strategic sensitivity to lying. Lying should makes people more tolerant, and we should be careful of believing.

DeleteNetanyahu's speech tough but not constructive
ReplyDeleteIsrael and the Muslim world were fighting for a while, generation after generation, and they don’t have a compromise solution for the problem. Netanyahu had a speech for 40 minutes long, and I think it was not effective. Israel and USA are friends, and helping each other’s since they started the war in Palestine. However, they both are scared from Iran because they have a nuclear program, which going to be risky object for the area.

ReplyDeletethis article is about not being prepared for the unexpected natural disasters that are occurring in the united states this year. from freezing winter temperatures and snowstorms to earthquakes that are occurring in California. this article is telling the readers not to blame the weather, rather blame yourself for not preparing for the worst. the writer mentioned that a high percentage of people in California don't have earthquake insurance. a lot of economical issues happen because of such events. yet people don't want to get up and start preparing themselves for the worst.
